Your New Role

As a Mechanical Designer at Goff Welding in Paul, ID, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and developing custom machines, structures, and weldments. This is an onsite role, and we prefer candidates within a 50-mile radius. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Designing mechanical and structural solutions from concept to production
  • Creating detailed specifications, 3D models, and prototypes using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Developing and executing design validation and testing plans
  • Selecting materials and manufacturing processes for optimal performance
  • Providing technical support to manufacturing and quality control teams
  • Improving existing welding solutions based on customer feedback and industry advancements
  • Ensuring compliance with sanitary design principles for food and dairy processing equipment
  • Collaborating with food safety teams to meet 3-A Sanitary Standards, USDA, and FDA requirements
  • Designing washdown-capable machinery, sanitary piping, and food-safe weldments
  • Troubleshooting and improving equipment for dairy, milk, and potato processing applications
  • Managing projects from conception to installation, ensuring designs meet functional requirements and project deadlines

  • Assisting with fabrication and installation, providing necessary information and updates as needed

Job requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, welding equipment, or food processing equipment development
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Portfolio showcasing relevant welding or food processing equipment design projects
  • Experience with stainless steel fabrication and corrosion-resistant materials
  • Knowledge of CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Sterilize-in-Place) systems


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or related field
  • Experience with sanitary process piping, tanks, and stainless steel food processing equipment
  • Knowledge of 3-A Sanitary Standards, ASME BPE, HACCP principles
  • Experience with FEA, CFD, or other simulation tools
  • Familiarity with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly)
  • Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and servo motors used in food processing automation
  • Experience with high-pressure processing (HPP), pasteurization, drying systems, and packaging machinery
  • Familiarity with advanced fabrication techniques (machining, press break and waterjet processes)
  • Experience integrating sensor-based monitoring and PLC-based automation systems into mechanical designs
