As the Design Manager based in Charlotte, NC, you’ll drive the design process from concept to completion for large, fast-paced data center construction projects. You’ll oversee all design disciplines—architectural, MEP, structural, civil, fire protection, and telecom—and ensure every detail aligns with the client’s performance, budget, and timeline expectations. You'll be the connector between internal teams, vendors, and consultants, making sure everything runs on time and on point.
Key Responsibilities:
Own the full lifecycle of design management from schematic design to IFC packages
Lead design coordination meetings with GC, engineers, vendors, and commissioning teams
Drive constructability and energy-efficiency reviews
Coordinate early design packages for permitting and early start construction
Ensure alignment with Tier III/IV standards, scalability, and redundancy goals
Work closely with preconstruction and procurement teams to hit cost and performance targets
Use BIM 360, Revit, Bluebeam Studio, and other digital tools to manage collaboration
Keep design documentation controlled, up-to-date, and distribution-ready
Anticipate issues before they derail progress—see around corners and make proactive calls

7+ years in design management, with at least one data center or mission-critical project as lead
Deep knowledge of data center infrastructure: UPS, switchgear, CRACs, chillers, structured cabling, etc.
Familiarity with Tier III/IV designs and Uptime Institute standards
Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, BIM 360, and design management software
Skilled at navigating construction schedules, financial reporting, and phased permitting
Comfortable leading multi-disciplinary teams and external consultants
Strong written and verbal communication across construction stakeholders
Able to travel frequently for client and jobsite meetings
Preferred Certifications (not required):
PE license, LEED AP, PMP, DBIA, or similar certifications
Preferred Education (not required):
Bachelor’s in Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering, or Construction Management
