Appliance Repair Technician

    • Rumford, Rhode Island
  • $24 - $32 per hour

Job description

Yellowstone Local is proud to represent Wickford Appliance, an industry leader in appliance sales, service, and repair.

Wickford Appliance is hiring an experienced Appliance Repair Technician for residential service calls. Earn $24–$32 per hour based on experience, plus labor-based incentives and performance bonuses, with no on-call requirements.

We’re looking for someone who can independently diagnose and repair major household appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and ovens. Household appliance repair experience is required; HVAC or commercial kitchen equipment experience alone does not meet this requirement.

What's in it for You?

  • Pay: $24–$32 per hour in base pay, based on experience, plus labor-based incentive pay and performance bonuses.

  • Weekly Labor-Based Incentive Pay: Receive additional compensation equal to 4% of labor, increasing to 8% when service-call documentation requirements are met under the company compensation plan.

  • Monthly Performance Bonuses: Additional compensation opportunities based on monthly performance.

  • Additional Service Incentives: Earn additional compensation for qualifying same-day add-on service calls.

  • Schedule: Full-time, rotating between Monday through Friday and Tuesday through Saturday. No on-call requirements.

  • Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with employer contributions toward medical insurance premiums.

  • Retirement Plan: Simple IRA with up to 3% employer contribution.

  • Paid Holidays: Paid major holidays.

  • Company Vehicle: Company-provided service van and fuel card for scheduled service appointments.

  • Tools and Equipment: Specialty tools provided for appliance diagnostics and repairs.

  • Daily Reporting: Begin each workday at your assigned Wickford store to pick up materials and drop off returns before traveling to customer appointments. Return home after your final service call. Store assignments and routes depend on your location and business needs.

  • Team Support: Work independently with support from an experienced Service Manager and Parts department.

Your New Role

  • Diagnose and repair major household appliances, including household refrigerator sealed systems, using diagnostic equipment, electrical schematics, and manufacturer guidelines.

  • Test completed repairs for proper operation and check for electrical, water-leak, and other safety concerns.

  • Explain repair recommendations and costs, obtain customer approvals and payments, and provide professional service in customers’ homes.

  • Complete service notes, photos, parts lookups, and job updates onsite; coordinate parts and follow-up visits with the service team.

  • Maintain an organized service van and manage assigned appointments and customer communications.

Hiring Expectations: Apply today, complete a quick phone screening, and get ready for an interview with our team to discuss your goals and experience.

Job requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing major household appliances, with 5 or more years preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • EPA Section 608 certification appropriate to the refrigerant work performed is required.

  • Hands-on experience independently diagnosing and repairing sealed refrigeration systems in household refrigerators and freezers.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills across multiple appliance types and brands.

  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Ability to work independently, manage service appointments, and maintain accurate repair documentation.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to perform essential physical duties, including lifting, carrying, and maneuvering appliances and parts weighing up to 100 lbs., with assistance or equipment when appropriate and reasonable accommodations as required by law.

  • Ability to perform repair tasks involving kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, and working in confined spaces, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

  • Availability to work a rotating Monday through Friday and Tuesday through Saturday schedule.

  • Technical or vocational training in appliance repair preferred.

  • Manufacturer certifications for major appliance brands preferred.

  • Experience working in a family-owned or small-business environment preferred.
